Nissan Qashqai

After almost 20 years, the Nissan Qashqai remains the go-to choice for many families. The latest variety is arguably the best yet, featuring enhanced build quality, the latest Google-based infotainment tech and a plethora of clean, hybrid drivetrains to choose from.

Inside the cabin you’ll find a large 12.3in touchscreen and a funky digital driver display. All but the most basic models give you access to the Google Play Store, just like on an Android phone. This means you not only have access to Google Maps, but a plethora of other apps too.

It borrows its external looks from the Ariya EV, which gives it a distinctly upmarket appearance. Despite its popularity, it isn’t the most practical of family cars – its 504-litre boot isn’t the biggest in class.

Ford Explorer

With clever interior features, an efficient electric powertrain and great looks, the Ford Explorer has quickly gained popularity on Leasing.com. Depending on the variant you go for, you’ll get an official range of between 320 and 375 miles, giving it Tesla-rivalling levels of range.

It might only be the second all-electric Ford to hit the market, but it’s a much more practical proposition than the sportier Mustang Mach-E, reflected with its split folding rear seats and larger 450-litre boot. It also gets Ford’s Mega Console area between the front seats.

This large area is adaptable and offers enough stowage space to swallow a laptop or a handbag. The 15in portrait infotainment screen also tilts, allowing you to access a further “secret” storage compartment behind the monitor.

Renault Symbioz

The Symbioz is Renault’s answer to the Nissan Qashqai and, despite being a little smaller than some of its rivals, it offers fantastic value. Lease deals start from less than £200 per month, undercutting not only the Qashqai but models like the Hyundai Tucson too.

There’s plenty of space in the rear for the kids, while its 492-litre boot is almost on par with pricier rivals.

Whichever trim you go for, you’ll get a version of Renault’s clever E-Tech hybrid powertrain. It gets a gearbox that allows it to utliise electric-only power at lower speeds. The result? Up to 60mpg.

Inside, you’ll find Tesla’s signature minimalist interior, which includes a massive 15-inch touchscreen to control almost every aspect of the vehicle. The Model Y also provides a surprisingly spacious cabin with a flat floor and ample headroom for rear passengers.

For storage, the Model Y boasts around 800 litres of boot space, making it one of the most capacious family cars in its class. It's also packed with advanced safety tech, providing peace of mind on those family road trips.
