If you’re considering an EV, you might have noticed that when it comes to list prices – and finance deals – they come at a premium when compared to petrol or hybrid models. While EVs remain a pricier proposition as a new vehicle, costs have started to come down.

Price parity is expected to be achieved in the next few years. But if you’re looking for an EV right now, leasing proves that it needn’t be a pricy proposition. As with all lease deals, flexibility is key, but there are an increasing number of tempting sub £200 per month offers across a wide range of popular EVs.

We’ve compiled a list of five of the most affordable EVs currently available in October 2024. Please note, all prices are correct as of 16 October 2024 and rates can change at any time.

The cheapest new electric cars to lease include:

  • Vauxhall Corsa Electric
  • Nissan Leaf
  • Vauxhall Astra Electric
  • BYD Dolphin
  • MG 4
  • Dacia Spring

Vauxhall Corsa Electric

Vauxhall Corsa Electric

The Vauxhall Corsa Electric has been a great choice for those looking to transition to an affordable EV for a while, but prices have never been more enticing than they are at the moment. The compact hatchback loses none of its petrol sibling’s practicality, but adds a 45kWh battery pack and 136hp electric motor capable of up to 222 miles between charges.

It offers a great driving experience, with an ergonomic cockpit with impressive standard tech. All models get a 7in touchscreen compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which can be upgraded to a larger 10in unit if you plump for a higher trim level. It’ll take around half an hour to gain an 80% charge using a fast charger, and unlike some small EVs it feels just as comfortable on longer motorway journeys as it does in town.

Nissan Leaf

Compared to some cars on this list, the Nissan Leaf is starting to feel a little dated. It was one of the first EVs to succeed in the mainstream, but it hasn’t had an update for several years. That said, its impressive technology ensures it doesn’t feel like it has been left behind, while its range figures also keep up with more recent rivals.

The best bit? This is an all-electric family car you can currently lease for less than £150 per month. Proof, if you needed it, that a brand-new EV needn’t be an expensive proposition. You aren’t worrying about depreciation if you choose to lease either, with our recent study showing that leasing is by far the best form of finance for those considering an all-electric vehicle.

Vauxhall Astra Electric

The Vauxhall Astra received one of the best facelifts of recent times , and the all-electric version is a smart family car that’s capable of up to 258 miles between charge stops. While that isn’t as much as rivals like the MG4 or Volkswagen ID.3, if you can live with slightly less range then you’ll save a lot on your monthly payment. Prices start from under £200 per month.

Its near-silent drivetrain makes it a pleasure to drive in traffic and on the motorway, while its 352-litre boot makes this a genuinely practical family car. There’s a great dual-screen display set-up in the cabin too, with a 10in digital driver display and 10in touchscreen standard on all models. Of course, the system offers smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

BYD Dolphin

BYD Dolphin

BYD has been taking the European market by storm, and its most affordable EV to date comes in the form of the Dolphin. It’s well-equipped, featuring a neat rotating infotainment screen, a well-made interior with tonnes of storage and enough room to compete with more premium hatchbacks like the VW ID.3.

There’s several powertrain options available, with entry-level models featuring a 44.9kWh battery pack and a 95hp electric motor. It’s capable of up to 211 miles between charges. For less than £175 per month, few rivals can come close in terms of spec and electric range.

MG 4

The MG4 is a large family hatchback that proves EVs can offer drivers an engaging experience. The best bit? It’s currently priced from less than £200 per month. For this price, you’ll be looking at a Long Range model with a 64kWh battery. The result? A realistic real-world range of around 250 miles.

Whether around town or on longer journeys, the MG 4 is a really usable EV, and it’s fun to drive too. Peppy acceleration and well-weighted steering make it a more engaging drive than its somewhat more premium ID.3-shaped rival. Check out deals now by hitting the button below.

Dacia Spring

The Dacia Spring is one of the first EVs that shows electrified platforms can be really and truly affordable. This cute little city car borrows styling from larger Dacias like the Duster, but adds a neat electric platform. It might only have a range of 136 miles courtesy of a small 27kWh battery, but it’s the perfect partner for short urban journeys.

Two power options are available; a 45hp or 65hp model. We’d recommend the more potent of the two options to ensure it’ll feel comfortable on the odd motorway journey too. Basic it may be, but this is reflected in its pricing. The Spring can currently be leased for way less than £150 per month, making it the most affordable four-door EV yet on Leasing.com.
