Its excellent hybrid drivetrains, spacious interior and attractive SUV styling are just a few of its virtues. It’s little wonder that it remains one of the most popular family SUVs on Leasing.com. But what’s on offer when it comes to trim levels?
Of course, your choice of trim often comes down to personal taste and of course budget, but a major benefit of leasing a Toyota RAV4 is that monthly payments are often based on the car’s future value. So, the higher the spec, the more it’ll be worth in a few years.
With this in mind, it might surprise you how affordable certain trim levels are, when you compare leasing with other forms of finance. So, what are the Toyota RAV4 trims on offer in 2022?

Toyota RAV4 Icon
The RAV4 range kicks off with the Icon model. As with all RAV4s, it’s available in a choice of eight colours and, being the introductory range model, is set off with 17in alloy wheels. But don’t be thinking that this is an “entry-level” car – equipment levels are impressive and surpass many rivals from different brands.
Step inside and you’ll find an 8in infotainment touchscreen featuring Toyota’s Touch2 system, as well as a vivid digital driver display. The system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, meaning you can use your smartphone for your navigation as well as your telephone and entertainment. Other impressive standard equipment includes a reverse camera, rear parking sensors adaptive cruise control and dual-zone air conditioning. Headlights and wipers are automatic, too.
Safety is high on the agenda too, with the Icon offering an excellent pre-collision assist system that can detect cyclists and pedestrians.
Toyota RAV4 Design
For those that want to add further to the Icon’s already generous list of standard equipment, Design grade is a fantastic choice. It’s immediately marked out by its larger 18in dark silver alloys and the upgrades continue on the inside.
For starters, the infotainment system now features a handy navigation system – although it remains compatible with Apple and Android smartphones should you wish to use those apps instead. The system also has a fantastic voice recognition function that makes things even easier when you’re behind the wheel.
In addition to the infotainment upgrade, design models benefit from high-end features like an electric rear tailgate and keyless entry and ignition. There are now parking sensors up front too. All in all, the Design grade makes the RAV4 even easier to live with and drive than it already was.
Toyota RAV4 Excel
The RAV4 Excel is the next step up, adding further to the line-up. Externally, the alloys are one step larger again, with 19in units now the go-to choice.
On top of the Design’s additional tech, the Excel further adds auto-retractable door mirrors, heated front seats, heated steering wheel and a clever front wiper de-icer for those cold mornings.
The Excel model also gets black leather seats in place of the black cloth upholstery found in Icon and Design models, as well as neat contrasting Alcantara trim pieces. Blind-spot monitoring is added to the list of safety equipment too, along with Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Automatic High Beam (AHB) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
Toyota RAV4 Dynamic
Toyota describes its Dynamic level as “supremely equipped” – and it isn’t wrong. As the flagship of the range, the Dynamic gets everything that makes the Excel so great, but adds a host of external upgrades and tweaks that give it a really sporty and premium look.
Not only are the alloys now contrasting black 19in alloy wheels, but a range of tasteful bi-tone metallic paint finishes are available too. These include Obsidian Blue, Silver Blade and White Pearl. Dynamic models also get a rear spoiler and a host of gloss black trim to ensure it really stands out from the crowd. Inside, there’s other tweaks including a host of leather colour options, finished off with contrasting stitch work.

Toyota RAV4 Adventure (Coming soon)
The RAV4 Adventure is an all-new grade in the line-up, and is designed to add a rugged new model to the line-up. Unlike the rest of RAV4 trims, the Adventure will feature Toyota’s intelligent all-wheel drive as standard, rather than as an option.
Externally, the rugged look is set off with chunky trim pieces and wheel arches, skid plates and a slightly different set of bumpers to other RAV4s. There’s an Adventure-specific 10-spoke 19in alloy wheel set, while the eagle-eyed might also spot a fresh set of headlights and tail lights, with the Adventure featuring a new lighting signature that’ll be rolled out across the rest of the range very soon.
In the cabin there’s a dedicated upholstery design for the seats, combining smooth, black synthetic leather with deeply quilted back and cushion sections, with contrasting orange stitching. RAV4 Adventure scuff plates are also fitted. All in all it’s an interesting new addition to the line-up, and it should be available sometime later in 2022.
