Peugeot 408: Trims and engine options explained
Back to 'Expert guides'The Peugeot 408 is quickly becoming a favourite with those looking to lease. A sleek design, premium interior and competitive monthly prices resulted in it winning the Best Value Lease in the recent Leasing.com Awards.
With this fastback SUV on the radar of so many customers, we thought it’d be a good idea to take a look at which one you should plump for. In this article, we’ll examine the trim levels available and which powertrains are on offer.
Which Peugeot 408 trim is best?
Peugeot has kept things simple with the 408. In 2024, just two trims are available:
- Allure
- GT
Peugeot 408 Allure
While the Allure sits beneath the GT, with just two trims on offer, it can hardly be considered “entry-level”. It’s packed full of kit including Peugeot’s excellent i-Cockpit infotainment system.
Comprising of a 10in touchscreen and 10in digital driver display that sits above the steering wheel, it’s a fantastic system and offers impressive graphics and razor-sharp response. It’s also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
The rest of the cabin offers impressive specs too. With the “piano” key toggle switches and touch-button shortcuts, it has a really premium feel. This is aided by the neat gear selector switch, leaving the centre console and armrest area clutter free. Dynamic sports front seats are also standard, as are aluminium sports pedals.
A range of sleek colours are offered, with the beautiful Obsession Blue being the standard no-cost option. Allure models feature a host of gloss black exterior trim and 19in Diamond-cut alloy wheels too. Combined with the 408’s sleek side profile and contrasting body inserts, it’s a really good-looking car.
What engines are available with the 408 Allure?
There are three drivetrain options with the Allure: one petrol, one hybrid and one plug-in hybrid model. The entry-level 1.2-litre petrol produces 131hp, while the self-charging hybrid version of the same engine produces 136hp. The plug-in hybrid utilises a 1.6-litre petrol engine, and produces 180hp. It’s capable of up to 34 miles on electric power alone and features a favourable 12% BiK rate.
Peugeot 408 GT
The GT is the range-topping option, and as such boasts a host of premium features. Aside from the GT-specific 19in graphite alloy wheels, there’s a heated full-grain leather steering wheel, customisable ambient lighting, a smart electric tailgate, matrix LED headlights and 3D rear lights. There’s also some specific GT trim pieces, including Peugeot Lion badging on the front doors and a front grille with vertical body-coloured accents.
Some other luxurious additions include a clever “Clean Cabin” technology that’s connected to the air conditioning. It constantly monitors the air quality in the car. All GT models also get Peugeot’s impressive Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go functionality. This automatically maintains vehicle speed at the reference speed set, while adjusting vehicle speed to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.
Adding to the suite of standard safety tech, Night Vision is also an option on the GT. This unique tech can identify pedestrians and animals on the road at night.
What engines are available with the 408 GT?
The GT’s engine line-up mirrors that of the Allure above, with one exception; it can be specified with the range-topping 225hp plug-in hybrid. With 45hp more than the other plug-in, it provides impressively quick acceleration, but retains a 34-mile only electric range.
