2021 Vauxhall Insignia gets facelift and new engine line-up

The Vauxhall Insignia has been refreshed for 2021, with the tweaked car introducing styling revisions, technical enhancements and a range of more efficient engines.

Vauxhall Insignia styling

The front and rear bumpers have been given a refresh, giving the range a more angular and modern look than before. Up front you’ll also find a new lighting set-up, with the daytime running lights now at the bottom of the headlight rather than the top.

The headlights are now LED units across the range, while the addition of a GSi trim level introduces a styling pack that adds a sporty body kit, a twin-pipe exhaust, 20in alloy wheels and a range of visually enhanced exterior trim.

At first glance, not much has changed on the inside, although opting for the new GSi model will get you a set of sports seats. The main talking point is the improved infotainment and connectivity options.

All systems are now compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with the touchscreen interfaces ranging from the 7in entry-level option up to the larger 8in unit you’ll find on higher trim levels. Satnav is standard on SRi Vx-Line Nav, Ultimate Nav and GSi models.

Further options include heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and heated windscreen, while a Premium Bose sound system can be specified too.

Safety tech gets a boost too, with the new Insignia benefiting from Forward Collision warning with emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind-spot warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and a heads-up display.

The biggest change is under the bonnet, where you’ll find a range of completely new petrol and diesel three and four-cylinder engines as well as a new automatic gearbox. There’s cylinder deactivation for the first time in a Vauxhall too.

The line-up starts with two 2.0-litre petrol engines that produce 200hp and 230hp respectively. The latter is available exclusively with the new GSi and gets from 0-60mph in 7 seconds. Both units are fitted with a new nine-speed automatic gearbox too.

There’s also a revised 1.5-litre diesel on offer, which produces 122hp. Capable of a combined 51mpg, it’s the one to opt for if economy is key. Fitted with either a siz-speed manual or eight-speed auto, it’ll get from 0-60mph in just over 8 seconds.

An all-wheel drive variant called the Twinster is also offered, which gets new technology to “deliver the perfect transfer of power in every driving situation”.
