Vauxhall Frontera reborn as small SUV
Vauxhall has resurrected the Frontera name with a new compact electric SUV that’s due to hit the market later this year.
The Frontera will be available in petrol and electric guise, and is set to replace the Crossland in the Vauxhall line-up Here’s everything we know so far.
Vauxhall Frontera fast facts
- Frontera name last used in the 1990s on chunky off-roader
- Reborn car will feature electric drivetrain
- Likely to share a platform with the Citroen e-C3
- Borrows looks from latest Astra and Mokka
- 44kWh battery could offer more than 200 miles of range
Vauxhall Frontera styling
On the styling front, this compact crossover borrows its cues from the latest Mokka and Astra. That means it gets Vauxhall’s “vizor” front end. Size-wise, we know it will sit on the same platform as the new Citroen C3 range.
However, it’s likely to be a little larger than that model in the flesh. Overall, it gets a boxy look not dissimilar to Volkswagen's T-Cross.
Vauxhall Frontera interior
Like the exterior, similarities with other Vauxhalls are evident in the cabin. There’s a dual-screen layout, with two 10in screens (depending on trim level) giving it a really premium-looking dashboard.
You of course get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integrated into the infotainment system, although some physical controls have been retained, with buttons for heating and air conditioning above the console.
Vauxhall Frontera engines
The Frontera will be available with petrol engines as well as the electric version. No specs have been revealed yet, but we can expect a range of 1.2-litre petrol motors available in a range of power outputs, potentially featuring mild-hybrid tech.
The all-electric Frontera will utilise the same motor and 44kWh battery as the Citroen e-C3. This means we can expect it to provide between 200 and 250 miles of range. We’ll bring you more details as soon as they are confirmed.
Vauxhall Frontera release date
The Frontera will launch later this year, with more details expected to be confirmed over the coming months. We’ll bring you these, along with the very first lease deals, as soon as they are available.
