Say hello to the most eco-friendly car in the world: Matchbox’s new carbon neutral Tesla Roadster.

Made from 62% recycled zinc and 37% recycled plastic, just 1% of this vehicle is made from virgin material – and of course, it produces no emissions over its lifetime.

Ok, so you can’t drive it. But it’ll be sure to keep the kids entertained.

We reckon that must make it the most eco-friendly car in the world. Its packaging is plastic-free too, with the well-known wrapper making way for a paper and wood fibre packet.

It’s all part of Matchbox’s plan to go green. Set to launch later this year, the eco-friendly diecast range will include more than the Tesla Roadster; expect to see mini versions of the Nissan Leaf, BMW i3 and BMW i8 too.

What’s more, it’ll be launching a new playset with a fuel station that includes an EV charger. Its aim is to raise the eco-consciousness of kids, whose parents will likely to driving some form of EV or low-emission vehicle in the coming years.

Roberto Stanichi, global head of vehicles for Matchbox parent company Mattel, said it will “empower the next generation of Matchbox fans to help steer us towards a sustainable future”.

Mattel – the company that owns Matchbox – is aiming to produce all its products and packaging with sustainable products by 2030 – which coincidently is the year the sale of brand-new petrol and diesel cars will be banned from sale.
