1,108hp Turbo GT tops Taycan range: Most powerful Porsche ever

Porsche has given its flagship EV a makeover, with the refreshed Taycan hot on the heels of the recently revealed Macan.

At the top of the line-up, you’ll find the astonishing 1100hp Turbo GT, which gets from 0-62mph in just 2.2 seconds.

Externally, the changes are subtle for the Taycan, Taycan Sport Turismo and Taycan Cross Turismo. But the eagle-eyed will note the front end has been tweaked; the headlights look slightly sharper, while a raft of new intake points and redesigned front wings give it a more streamlined look.

As standard, there’ll be a host of new alloy wheel designs and colours to choose from, while at the rear the LED light bar has been given a 3D-style makeover. It’s definitely a case of evolution rather than revolution, but that’s no bad thing; it remains among the best-looking EVs out there.

Porsche Taycan interior and tech

The main upgrade to the cabin is the infotainment system, which has been given a more intuitive interface. It is of course, compatible with Android Auto and Apply CarPlay.

Smartphone mirroring can now also be enabled on the digital driver display and the optional passenger touchscreen too.

All models get things like wireless charging, ambient lighting, a park assist system and a reversing camera.

Porsche Taycan drivetrains

The Taycan is available in rear and all-wheel drive variants. The latter is offered in three guises: the 4S, the Turbo and the Turbo S. All models have been given a power boost, with the Turbo and Turbo S now among the most potent EVs on the road.

When fitted with the optional Sport Chrono pack, the Turbo S produces around 935hp – enough for an astounding 2.4-second o-62mph time, and around half a second quicker than the outgoing Turbo S can manage.

But even the more ordinary rear-drive standard Taycan now gets 425hp – enough for a 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds. The biggest change though, is with the battery packs. Porsche claims a range of clever tweaks now make the Taycan 35% more efficicent.

That means the standard Taycan in single-motor form can manage 422 miles bewteen charges when equipped with the 105kWh Performance Battery Plus option. All models now accept up to 320kW charging speeds.

All in all, this puts the Taycan at the top of the table for both range and charging when compared to competitors.

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT

With 1,108hp, the Taycan Turbo GT is a cut above everything else in the range. Capable of an astonishing 0-62mph in just 2.2 seconds, it’s already taken the fastest production electric car record at the Nürburgring, trouncing the Model S Plaid by over 15 seconds.

The Turbo GT is lighter than the standard car, while a special “Attack” mode is what gives it its 1,108hp (which isn’t available to the driver at all times). However, it still makes it the most potent Porsche ever produced.

Porsche Taycan release date

Set to be priced from £86,500 for the standard car rising to £161,400 for the Turbo S, the Taycan will be available later in the year.
