Mini Countryman styling

The Countryman is a completely fresh design, with the new model incorporating a more angular look than we’ve been used to seeing from the Mini brand. It’s still instantly recognisable though, but there is a key difference to its predecessor: size.

It’s around 130mm longer than the current model, with Mini aiming to up its size to make sure it’ll compete well with cars like the Audi Q3 and EVs like the Volkswagen ID.4.

Mini Countryman interior and tech

The interior follows the cues of the latest Mini products like the Electric Hatchback. That means an impressive infotainment system and a vivid digital driver display. Thanks to that size increase, space is increased compared to the outgoing model too too – particularly for rear passengers and luggage.

Three trim levels are available: Classic Exclusive and Sport. The Classic features a 9.4in infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, automatic wipers and satnav.

The Exclusive gains larger 18in alloys, a sportier steering wheel, different upholstery options and sports seats. Sport models gain John Cooper Works-specific trim, as well as model-specific bumpers, synthetic leather upholstery and more powerful brakes.

Mini Countryman drivetrains

Mini is owned by BMW Group, and as such the new Countryman will make use of the X1 platform. This allows both combustion and electric drivetrains to be offered.

1.5-litre and 2.0-litre petrol models are offered, offering 170hp and 220hp respectively. The Electric is available in two formats – the E and SE.

They are capable of 287 miles and 269 miles, with both featuring 64kWh battery packs that can gain an 80% recharge in less than half an hour using a fast charger.

A more potent petrol John Cooper Works version of the larger engine is also available, which produces 300hp and features the ALL4 all-wheel drive system. It’ll get from rest to 62mph in just 5.4 seconds.
