Mini unveils all-new petrol-powered Cooper
The Mini Cooper Electric might already have been available a while, but now the brand has introduced what is likely to be the final petrol iteration of the same model.
Featuring a tweaked 200hp motor for the Cooper S and solely available as an automatic, here’s everything you need to know.
Mini Cooper styling
The petrol version of the latest Mini Cooper resemble the Electric, utilising the same design cues like a smoother front end along with a redesigned triangular version of the Union Flag tail lights.
The only key difference is the grille, with the petrol models featuring extra intakes and vents to ensure engine cooling. It’ll be available in a range of colourful hues, and the three alloy wheel designs are also different to those used on the Electric.
Mini Cooper interior and tech
Like all the latest Minis, the petrol Cooper features a stunning 9.5in infotainment screen that’s circular and centrally mounted. This controls lots of features and displays all the graphics.
It’s a great-looking thing, although we don’t know if it’ll be to everyone’s tastes. Three trims are available from launch: Classic, Exclusive and Sport.
Standard equipment includes LED headlights, climate control and keyless entry, while opting for the range-topping Sport gets you things like a different steering wheel, a beefier body kit and contrasting colour options.
Mini Cooper drivetrains
Two petrol options are available from launch – a 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre unit. The former produces 156hp and manages to get from zero to 62mph in less than eight seconds.
For outright performance though, you’ll want the Cooper S. This is the model that features the 2.0-litre unit and, producing 204hp, it gets a healthy power boost compared with the outgoing model.
It’ll get from zero to 62mph in 6.6 seconds. All models feature an automatic gearbox, with a manual not an option on either model.
Mini Cooper release date
We expect order books for the petrol Mini Cooper to open soon, with prices starting from around £22,000 – that significantly undercuts the all-electric model.
We’ll bring you more details and of course the very best deals as soon as they’re available. In the meantime, you can check out and compare prices on Mini models available right now by hitting the button below.
