Mini Cooper 5 Door revealed in full

Mini has taken the covers off its reworked 5 Door hatch – a more practical proposition than the 3 Door, but with the same styling cues.

Featuring a number of petrol options and the same stunning infotainment system as its smaller sibling, here’s everything you need to know.

Mini Cooper 5 Door styling

The 5 Door very much resembles the 3 Door externally, with the same design cues featured on the facelifted model. That means a smoother front end, along with a redesigned variation of the Union Flag tail lights.

With petrol power still on offer, you can mark these models out courtesy of the air intakes and vents in the front grille. A range of new alloy wheel designs are also offered, along with a host of new colour options.

It’s a longer car than the 3 Door though, as you’d expect, but proportionally it remains very similar.

Mini Cooper 5 Door interior and tech

Like all the latest Minis, the 5 Door gets the stunningly vivid 9.5in circular central touchscreen, which is responsible for controlling many of the car’s functions.

While it won’t be to everyone’s taste, it offers something a little different compared to competitors. The boot is slightly larger than the 3 Door, while the biggest change is in the back seats. That extra length pays dividends for the rear passengers.

Mini Cooper 5 Door powertrains

Two petrol options are available from launch – a 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre unit. The former produces 156hp and manages to get from zero to 62mph in eight seconds.

For outright performance though, you’ll want the Cooper S. This is the model that features the 2.0-litre unit and, producing 204hp, it gets a healthy power boost compared with the outgoing model.

It’ll get from zero to 62mph in 6.8 seconds. All models feature an automatic gearbox, with a manual not an option on either model.
