MG HS revealed in full
This is the new MG HS – another new-and-updated model from the Chinese brand. Taking the shape of a compact SUV, it features plug-in hybrid drivetrains and a raft of new interior tech.

MG HS styling
The HS benefits from a complete shift in design language compared with the outgoing car. Aiming squarely at the likes of the Nissan Qashqai, the new car looks fresh. It gets a set of sleek headlights and a large imposing grille.
It borrows its sloping clamshell bonnet design from the MG 3 and MG 4, bringing it in line with the more recent cars in the range. It’s larger than the outgoing model too, while the back gets a light bar that runs the full width of the car.
MG HS interior and tech
The interior marks a significant improvement compared with the old car, with new materials used throughout. It has a premium feel, and everything is well laid out.
The dashboard is dominated with a pair of 12.3in screens, one of which is a touchscreen infotainment system. It’s compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and features live traffic, weather and streaming services.
MG HS powertrains
Two options will be available from launch: a 1.5-litre petrol available with either a manual or automatic gearbox, and an all-new plug-in hybrid model.
The latter uses the same engine but adds a useful 25kWh battery that can provide up to 75 miles of range in electric-only mode – that’s significantly more than the outgoing HS PHEV, as well as more than many more expensive rivals.
MG HS prices and lease deals
The HS will be priced from an attractive £24,995, rising to £31,500 for the plug-in hybrid. This should make it an attractive proposition, undercutting many similarly sized rivals like the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage.
