MG has given its 3 supermini a much-needed redesign, with the all-new model replacing the model that’s been on the market for more than a decade.

With sharp looks, an impressive hybrid drivetrain and new interior tech, MG is hoping its new hatchback will prove as popular as its MG 4 electric car has done. Here’s what you need to know.

MG 3 styling

The new car certainly looks much fresher than the old design. It’s clearly been influenced by the brand’s MG 4, as well as other models. Up front, there’s a sharp set of headlights and a clamshell-like bonnet.

Side on, it doesn’t look dissimilar to rivals like the Mazda 2 or Kia Rio. Round the back, the design is a little more recognisably MG courtesy of a tail light design that’s similar to the MG ZS and MG 5 EV.

MG 3 interior and tech

The interior is just as fresh as the external styling. It’s been completely overhauled and features a new dashboard design, at the centre of which is a 10in infotainment touchscreen.

The system is impressive, offering connectivity to smartphone mirroring systems as standard. Equipment across the board is impressive, with all models getting a parking camera and climate control.

The 7in digital driver display has been borrowed from the larger MG 4, while the steering wheel is a two-spoke affair with an open bottom section.

MG 3 drivetrains

The MG 3 will be offered with a single hybrid drivetrain option: a 1.5-litre hybrid system. Combined, the electric motor and petrol engine produce 190hp – that’ll give it significantly more power than similarly-sized rivals.

0-62mph takes just eight seconds, while fuel consumption is said to be more than 60mpg on average. UK specs are to be confirmed, but we expect – from launch at least – this will be the only choice.
