Mazda CX-80 set for autumn launch
Mazda has taken the covers off its CX-80 flagship SUV. Featuring styling cues from the CX-60, it gets seven seats and class-leading towing abilities.

Mazda CX-80 styling
Externally, it’s clear to see the CX-80 mirrors the more compact CX-60 (although that’s already a large SUV in its own right). It’s around 25cm longer than that car though, anda little bit taller too.
Up front you get a very similar set of headlights, while the grille is a different design and wider than before. It’s actually Mazda’s first seven-seat model since the 5 – a car that launched more than ten years ago.
Mazda CX-80 interior and tech
The inside largely mirrors the CX-60 too, with a healthy level of standard equipment across all trim levels. You get tri-zone climate control and a large 12.3in touchscreen that’s compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The CX-80 can also be specified as a six seater, with the rear-most seats focusing just as much on comfort as the middle row. Range-topping cars will get captain’s chairs in the back too, which offer impressive reclining abilities.
With the rear-most seats down, you get 687 litres of boot space, which decreases to 258 litres with all seven seats in place.
Mazda CX-80 drivetrains
There will be no fully electric CX-80 at launch, and it’ll get the same powertrain and drivetrain options as the CX-60. That means an impressive six-cylinder 3.3-litre diesel engine that uses mild-hybrid tech.
A plug-in hybrid version is also on offer, featuring a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with a 17.8kWh battery pack. It’ll manage around 32 miles on electric power alone, while the 12% Benefit in Kind tax bracket is much lower than the diesel can offer.
One notably impressive accolade the CX-80 has is its towing abilities. With a towing capacity of 2500kg, it’s more impressive than cars like the Volvo XC90. A special camera also makes hitching up easier, too.
Mazda CX-80 release date
The CX-80 is due to hit UK shores in the autumn, with deliveries commencing towards the end of the year.
