Isuzu D-Max 2021: Safer, Smarter, Stronger

  • 24 Feb 2021

The all-new Isuzu D-Max will arrive in the UK in March, introducing new styling, improved safety tech and enhanced off-road performance.

Here’s what you need to know.

On the outside, the new D-Max benefits from what Isuzu is calling “an assertive new design”. The front end is higher than before, while the whole pick-up looks sharper than before.

It’s available with a set of new 18in alloy wheels, while bi-LED headlights help to mark out higher trim levels. Customers can choose three body styles: Standard, Extended and Double cab.

Inside, there’s an all-new dashboard design that uses a layered approach to offer better ergonomics. A new infotainment system features, while soft-touch trim give the D-Max’s interior a more premium feel than before.

Technical enhancements include a strengthened platform with larger rails, while speed-sensitive power steering is now standard – helping improve manoeuvrability at low speeds.

It’s available in four trims: Utility, DL20, DL40 & V-Cross. Utility models are ideally suited to working environments with features like an easily-cleanable vinyl flooring and durable steel wheels, while the bumpers, door mirrors and door handles are made from a hard-wearing black plastic.

The All-Purpose range consists of the DL20 and DL40, with ‘DL’ signifying that the rear diff-lock becomes a standard feature and the ‘20’ and ‘40’ demonstrating the model hierarchy.  All-Purpose models are also available with an automatic transmission, which come with the additional ADAS functionality of Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist.

The DL20 features heated front seats, rear parking sensors, front fog lights and a front centre armrest for increased comfort and practicality, while body-coloured front and rear bumpers, silver door handles, a medium grey radiator grille and 18” alloy wheels provide a more premium appearance.

DL40 adds a variety of sophisticated enhancements like distinctive Bi-LED headlights, LED front fog lights, daytime running lights and rear lights, a chrome radiator grille, silver side steps and two-tone 18” alloy wheels. DL40 models also include front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

The 4WD system gets a rear diff-lock as standard on All-Purpose and Adventure models. Meanwhile, the safety systems have been comprehensively updated too, with the ADAS package now including autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed limited and lane departure warning.

All double cab variants feature a rear radar system too, which offers rear cross traffic alert, a blind spot monitor and emergency lane keeping.

Capable of towing up to 4.5 tonnes, the D-Max gets its power from a 164hp diesel engine that is now available with either a six speed manual or six speed automatic. The latter now offers up to 25% faster gear changes.

Set to arrive in the UK from March, we’ll bring you leasing deals on the all-new D-Max when they are available.
