Hyundai Inster styling
The Inster stands out next to the brand’s other EVs. It gets a unique look that makes us think of Japanese Kei cars. It’s certainly a unique look that’ll help it stand out against the competition.
While this is very much a city car, chunky body elements and a set of roof rails give it SUV vibes. Despite only two visible door handles, this is a four-door – the rear door handles are hidden within the window frame.
Up front, you get circular headlights incorporating a daytime running LED pattern, while between the grille and bonnet you’ll find another set of lights set within a black trim strip – these are the indicators.
Hyundai Inster interior and tech
Inside, the cabin also breaks away from the design of other electric Hyundais. It’s been designed to make as much use of the available space as possible. That means there’s no centre console, although you’ll find a raft of physical buttons remain.
There are still two 10.25in displays, like other Hyundais. But they’re split in the Inster. The infotainment touchscreen juts out of the dashboard, while the other makes up a separate digital driver display. Android Auto and Apple Car Play come as standard.
There’s plenty of room inside – that high roofline ensures headroom is amongst the best in class. In the back, the rear seats can slide back and fourth, while all four seats can fold completely flat – great if you plan on camping in the car.
Hyundai Inster powertrains
From launch, two models will be offered: a 42kWh and 49kWh battery. The smaller pack is mated to an electric motor that produces just under 100hp. It’s capable of around 203 miles between charges.
Plump for the Long Range model, and you’ll get a boost in both power and range: 49kWh models produce 115hp and can manage around 230 miles between charges.
