Honda Prelude makes illustrious return

Honda Prelude styling
The sleek pictures you see here show the Prelude in concept form, but it’s very likely the production variant will bear a very similar likeness. It makes a change from the raft of crossovers and SUVs that we’ve seen over the last few years, with the Prelude remaining a sleek and sporty two-door coupe.
Up front, there’s a set of LED headlights that integrate neatly into a clamshell bonnet and slatted grille design. Lots of carbon fibre have been integrated into the design, with the lower portions of the front bumper obviously making use of the material.
Side on, the low and swoopy design marks the Prelude out as a true coupe. With two doors and a fastback sloping rear end, it’s a real stand-out design in the sea of SUVs. Round the back, there’s a full-width light bar below a carbon fibre spoiler.
Honda Prelude powertrains and platform
Unlike a lot of new performance models, the Prelude will not be all-electric. It will utilise a clever hybrid drivetrain, combining a 2.0-litre petrol engine with a pair of electric motors. It’s the same system employed in the Civic, but power stats are to be confirmed for the Prelude’s powertrain.
Speaking about the car’s powertrain, Tomoyuki Yamagami, Chief Engineer and Large Project Leader said: “The Prelude not only marks the latest chapter in our ever-evolving hybrid story, it is also the product of 25 years of pioneering hybrid research and development.
“Ensuring this model maintains its ‘sporty’ DNA by perfectly blending the efficiency and environmental advantages of electrified driving with an exhilarating experience behind the wheel – liberating users from their daily lives with increased driving pleasure.”
Honda Prelude interior
No snaps of the interior have been revealed yet, but we can expect the Prelude to borrow tech from the current Honda line-up when it comes to infotainment systems and driver displays. We’ll bring you pics and more info as soon as the production car is revealed.
