Geneva Motor Show 2024: Five key cars to look out for

  • 22 Feb 2024

Following the pandemic, the Geneva Motor Show returns in 2024 – for the first time in five years.

Motor shows have declined in importance in recent years, and for the most part are now much smaller affairs than they used to be. Geneva 2024 is no exception – there’s a much longer list of manufacturers that aren’t in attendance than those that are.

That said, there are a few notable exceptions. Here’s five significant cars that will make their public debut at Geneva this year.

Dacia Spring

Dacia will be out in force at this year’s show, promising to have not one but TWO new cars on display. As well as the all-new Duster, that means we’ll also cadge a glimpse of the Spring.

Set to be Dacia’s first EV available in the UK, it also promises to be one of the most affordable. Using tried and trusted technology, it’s very much a car aimed at those that don’t need much range – it can muster just 137 miles between charges.

That said, it will be one of (if not the cheapest) EV available – by list price at least. This is one to watch out for in the coming months. You can read more about the new Spring here, or check out the Duster if you need something a little more practical.

BYD Seal U

BYD has been making a splash in the UK, with its now varied range taking on every EV from MG to Tesla. Despite being a relative newcomer to the European market, the BYD brand is vast, and it’s likely it will be showcasing some of its other vehicles that could be headed for Europe.

Notably the Seal U SUV is likely to be on show. It borrows the looks of the existing Seal model, but jacks it up to give it SUV proportions. BYD is a fast paced brand, so you can expect to see one or two models on its stand, too.

Lucid

Lucid is a premium American EV maker that has been due to enter the European market for a while now – but it just hasn’t materialised. However, it’s definitely going to be in attendance at Geneva, which means the arrival of its Air to our shows is likely on the horizon.

This potent EV offers more individualistic styling than Tesla, and size-wise it’ll be competing with models like the Mercedes EQS when it arrives. We’ll bring you further details on this model as and when we get confirmation of it coming to the UK.

MG

Following the success of its MG 4, the Chinese brand will be unveiling its all-new MG 3 supermini which should be a markable improvement compared with the outgoing model. That said, it’s highly likely this car will still be available with a petrol engine to keep costs down.

The result should be one of the most affordable cars in the UK, poised to compete with the likes of Dacia.

Renault 5 EV

We’ve arguably saved the best until last. Geneva is (almost) home territory for Renault, so it’s fitting that it has waited for the show to finally unveil its reborn Renault 5 in full. This is a car that’s been getting car fans excited.

It features throwback looks to the original supermini of the 70s and 80s, but wraps it up in an all-electric package that’ll replace the Zoe in Renault’s line-up. We can’t wait to see this one in the flesh – read all about it here.

Geneva countdown begins

The press day for Geneva is Monday 26 February, so we’ll know more about all the above models – and probably a few more – early next week. We’ll bring you all the developments as soon as they happen.
