Ford Ranger styling

From the outside, it’s immediately obvious the new Ranger takes inspiration from the latest of Ford’s American pick-ups and SUVs including the huge F-150 and retro-looking Bronco.

Both front and rear ends have been changed, while it’s also 50mm wider than before which gives the pick-up more presence.

There’s a new tailgate design too, with ‘Ranger’ stamped directly into the metal. The rear bumper also features steps, to make accessing the load bed easier.

What’s more, a clever set of new clamps means that the tailgate can actually double up as useable workbench and allows you to hold materials during cutting. As always,a range of body styles are available.

Ford Ranger interior and tech

The Ranger has taken a distinctly premium turn on the inside, with models such as the Wildtrack and Raptor now featuring more luxurious materials and soft-touch surfaces than before.

A digital driver display is now on offer too, which displays key functions including off-road driving controls. The infotainment system uses Ford’s latest Sync4 tech and features a 10in or 12in portrait touchscreen depending on specification.

Ford Ranger engines and drivetrain

From launch, the current 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine will be retained, with various power outputs available from this unit. Ford has confirmed that an all-new 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine option will join the range too, producing more than 200hp.

Arguably the biggest news is that an electrified hybrid version has been confirmed and will likely join the line-up in 2023 or 2024. Set to use Ford’s 2.3-litre Ecoboost unit, it’s part of the company’s efforts to offer electrified versions of all its commercial vehicles by 2025.

Gearbox options include five and six-speed manuals, as well as a 10-speed automatic that’s been tuned for improved towing capabilities. You’ll also be able to specify one of two four-wheel drive systems: a basic system with manual drive selection, or a clever electronic on-demand system.
