Cupra Terramar SUV: Everything you need to know
The Cupra Terramar SUV has been revealed, with this Tiguan rival set to arrive early next year.
With an impressive plug-in hybrid option, sharp styling and a high-tech interior, it’ll sit alongside the Tavascan coupe SUV when it hits the market next year.
Here’s everything you need to know.
Cupra Terramar fast facts
- Distinctive, upmarket styling
- Five engine options including mild and plug-in hybrids
- PHEV has electric range of up to 70 miles
- 12.9in touchscreen standard
- Improved operating system for infotainment
Cupra Terramar styling
Much of the Terrarmar’s styling is based upon the Tavascan – a car to which it’s closely related. Up front, you get a sharp-looking set of headlights and a bumper that’s dominated by various grilles and air intakes.
Unlike the Tavascan, the Terramar has a more traditional SUV shape, with a large boot area at the rear. There’s a neat full-width light bar running across the boot, which incorporates an illuminated Cupra badge – snazzy stuff.
Cupra Terramar interior and tech
The Terramar has a very driver-focused cabin, and the tech in it has already been seen on the latest raft of Cupras. However, the infotainment system has been updated to a fresher operating system.
There’s a 12.9in touchscreen, as well as a 10.25in digital driver display – both of which offer vivid graphics. The heating controls are done via a touch-sensitive slider control panel which are neatly illuminated.
There’s tonnes of space inside and, being based on the Tiguan’s platform, it means there’s loads of room in the boot too – 540 litres of passenger space is only a few litres short of the Volkswagen.
Cupra Terramar powertrains
You can choose between petrol, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid drivetrains. A mild-hybrid 1.5-litre engine is the entry-level option, which produces 150hp.
Two plug-in models feature, offering 200hp and 270hp respectively. They use the same 1.5-litre engine, but pair it with a 20kWh battery and electric motor. The result? Up to 70 miles of electric-only range – that’ll make it one of the most impressive PHEVs available.
The petrol model is a 2.0-litre turbocharged motor which is available with either 200hp or 260hp – it’s the same engine you’ll find in the hotter Cupra models like the Leon, and in the Terramar both options feature all-wheel drive.
All models feature a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic gearbox as standard, while the most potent petrol model gets from rest to 62mph in under six seconds.
