BYD Sealion 7: First details revealed
BYD has revealed the Sealion 7 SUV at the Paris Motor Show. It’s one of several new BYD models that are due to arrive on the European market over the next year.
Here’s everything we know so far.
BYD Sealion 7 fast facts
- Styled and sized to compete with Tesla Model Y
- 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds
- A range of battery and power options
- Sits alongside Seal fastback in BYD range
- Deliveries set for 2025 in UK
BYD Sealion 7 styling
The Sealion 7 takes its cues from the swoopy Seal saloon, featuring the same front end with boomerang style headlights and daytime running lights. Being an SUV, however, means it’s proportionally significantly larger than that car.
Down the side, you’ll find flush door handles aimed at improving aerodynamics, while the boot area features a sloping roofline – much like the Tesla Model Y – a model it’s aiming to compete with.
BYD Sealion 7 tech
The cabin will be much more spacious than the Seal. One of BYD’s part pieces is its large rotating infotainment screen, which in the Sealion 7 measures 15.6in.
Full specs are to be confirmed, but it’s clear that a digital driver display will be available on all models, while options are likely to include a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging capabilities and a range of semi-autonomous driving aids.
BYD Sealion 7 powertrains
A host of battery and motor options will be available, with all making used of BYD’s “blade” battery system. This design integrates the batteries directly into the platform of the car, increasing safety and improving the centre of gravity.
Specs are to be confirmed, although we know that two- and four-wheel drive models will be offered, as will an 82kWh battery. Models featuring this mode of power will get from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds.
It’s also been confirmed that Sealion 7 models will benefit from a heat pump as standard, which will help increase range in winter and help extend battery life.
