BYD – the Chinese car company that produces the Atto 3 and Dolphin – has created a stunning fastback saloon. And it’s available to lease right now.

BYD Seal styling

The BYD Seal is an all-new model, and it will join the Atto 3 crossover when it arrives in the UK. Taking the form of a saloon though, it gets quite a different look to its sibling. A sharp front end with sharp creases give it a high-end look.

Round the side, the silhouette is reminiscent of upmarket cars like the Polestar 2 and even the BMW i4. It gets flush door handles and intricate alloy wheel designs, while at the rear you’ll find a full-width light bar. It’s clear that this is meant to be BYD’s most premium car to date.

BYD Seal interior and tech

On the inside, you’ll find an interior that looks as premium as the external styling. You get a 15in touchscreen display which, like the Atto 3, can rotate from portrait to landscape at the flick of a switch. The system is compatible with Android Auto and Apply Car Play too.

The driver gets a 10in digital display too, which is an improvement over the small unit offered in the Atto 3. The quilted leather-effect upholstery matches the sports seats well, while the dashboard design itself is interesting – the air vents appear to span its entire width.

BYD Seal drivetrains

From launch, you’ll be able to choose either a single motor or dual motor platform. It utilises BYD’s latest e-Platform tech, and both versions feature an 82kWh battery pack. That’s significantly larger than the one in the Atto 3.

This results in a 323-mile range for the dual motor variant, and a 354-mile range for the single motor version. Both models impressive performance stats too; the single motor products 310hp allowing a sub-six second 0-62mph time.

The dual motor version offers 530hp. This gives it a 0-62mph time of just 3.8 seconds – enough to worry cars like the Tesla Model 3 Performance and even the BMW i4 M50. Both models are capable of charging from 20% to 80% in less than half an hour using a fast charger.

BYD Seal release date
