The BYD Dolphin is now available in the UK, with lease plans on offer right now. Hot on the heels of the Atto 3, it’s the Chinese brand’s second vehicle to launch in Europe.

BYD Dolphin styling
The Dolphin takes a rather different approach to the Atto 3 on the styling front, and it’s obvious this car is to sit in a different position in the market. It gets a softer look than the larger car, with smaller headlights and a traditional hatchback body shape.
The trim and colour will be dependent on specification, with four offerings from launch. Entry-level Active models will feature 16in wheels, with higher trims featuring 17in alloy wheels.
Opt for the range-topping model and you’ll get specific trim as well as a panoramic sunroof and rear privacy glass.
BYD Dolphin interior and tech
Unlike the exterior, inside things are much more like the Atto 3. The same dash design is present, with circular vents featuring, as well as a curvaceous trim piece that slopes to meet the impressive infotainment touchscreen.
Exact specs are to be confirmed, but it appears the Dolphin shares the same 12in central display as the Atto 3, with the driver also getting a separate digital display.
BYD Dolphin drivetrains
A single battery option will be available from launch, with a 60kWh unit offering north of 250 miles of range between charges – that exceeds or is on par with many rivals including the Vauxhall Corsa E.
From 2024, a more affordable version will also be offered with a 45kWh pack. Between 193 miles and 210 miles of range will be offered from this variant.
All models will share the same electric motor as the Atto 3, meaning it produces just over 200hp – enough for a 0-62mph time of seven seconds.

The Dolphin is now available to order, although deliveries aren’t set to commence for a few months yet.
