Audi unveils all-new A5 range
Say hello to the all-new Audi A5 range, but it’s not necessarily what you’d expect. Instead of a two-door coupe and cabriolet, the new A5 consists of a saloon and estate.
It will replace the A4 within Audi’s range and aim to compete with cars like the BMW 3 Series. Here’s what you need to know.

Audi A5 styling
Let’s start with the most obvious change. Gone are the two-door and cabriolet versions of the A5. The new car is available in five-door form only, as both a saloon and practical estate.
Up front, it gets the same clamshell bonnet design as before, but adds a fresh, low-slung grille and neat set of headlights. Depending on spec, a range of new alloy wheels are on offer, including 17in, 18in and 19in choices.
The door handles have seen a notable change too, with the flush design helping make the car more aerodynamic. Round the back, a full-width light bar spans the boot lid, with the pattern taking on a similar design to other more expensive models in Audi’s range.
The Avant version swaps out the sloping rear end for a more practical estate design, while plumping for an S5 model will bring numerous sporty tweaks including quad exhausts, beefier bumpers and stunning alloy wheels.

The new A5 range borrows lots of tech from the newest Audis including the brand’s e-tron models. There’s a beautiful 14.5in touchscreen that dominates the dash, combined with an 11.9in digital driver display. Both offer vivid graphics and top-notch responsiveness.
The overall design has been changed too, also bringing the new A5 more in line with more expensive models. There’s new trim, while the dashboard design and ambient lighting mirror that of the Audi Q6.
An optional 10in passenger screen can also be specified, which allows the front occupant to watch videos and view key vehicle info.
Audi A5 powertrains
From launch, a number of petrol and diesel engines will be offered. A 2.0-litre petrol can be specified with either 150hp or 205hp, with the latter getting Audi’s excellent Quattro all-wheel drive system.
A turbocharged diesel is still available, also producing 205hp, while the sporty S5 model will utilise a 3.0-litre petrol V6. Specs are to be confirmed, but it produces almost 370hp and is aiming to take on cars like BMW’s M340i.
No electric version will be offered, with the A4 e-tron taking on that role within Audi’s saloon range once it launches. A range-topping RS5 will also launch in due course.
